Home Session in Huntersville
These faces will probably look pretty familiar to some of you. I’ve been photographing Jody’s family since their kids were tiny. I always love to see what Jody’s vision is each year for their family photos. We’ve done fancy uptown Charlotte pictures, a rustic General Store session, a statement session in NoDa, a boho style, along with others. This year, she decided to keep it simple and do a home session here in Huntersville where we both are located. However, instead of just grabbing your typical shots around the house, she also requested some “drama” shots. Basically lots of black and white, strong use of lighting, macro shots, etc. I made sure to grab a little of both. This insured that she got those more artistic shots but also had some real life moments documented.
I love the individual portraits of Allie and Matthew. They’re such cute kids, and as they’ve gotten older, they’re getting more and more into these shoots. We’ve always had fun, but now they seem to enjoy getting cool shots of themselves. Allie’s personality has been a little on the more timid side in the past. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being quiet and shy, Jody and Matt still try to speak strength into her spirit. It’s definitely working, because even though she’s still quiet, her confidence is high. Because of this, I wanted to make sure I got an image of her that just screams confidence and strength.
Matthew is just a cutie. His eyes are so cool and bright. And his sweet in between moments where he had to get that giggle out before going back to his serious face? So adorable. We then headed to each kiddo’s room to just let them do their thing and get some natural lifestyle images. That’s the beauty of these home sessions. I basically search the house for the best light for images like this. For example, all of these kid headshots were actually taken in their stairwell. But you’d never know it! 😉 Another reason I love home sessions is because it’s a great way to document your decor and your children’s individual rooms while they’re in this stage. It’s also a great way to allow your family pet to be involved, especially if you feel like they won’t handle an on location session well.
We finished up their session with the kids, just being silly and themselves in Jody and Matt’s room. I think these may be some of my favorites from their home session. They’re just so sweet and definitely moments that weren’t contrived or faked. I just love them. We had fun getting creative and playing around with ideas. I love that Jody trusts me to just do my thing.
