Senior Brothers at Badin Lake

This shoot ended up being one of those weird, full circle moments. I've known these guys' parents since basically before I was born. Their dad's parents and my parents were good friends. He was at my first birthday party. I've known their mom since I was in elementary school. They began dating when I was still in middle school and have literally grown up together. While they were a few years older than me, it was still surreal to be photographing their ADULT CHILDREN WHAT. And in true social media life fashion, I've literally watched these guys grow up via the parents' posts. Their family was honestly a big inspiration behind my decision to homeschool. I had a baby at the time, but I would see them all going on cool trips to historical sites and learning physics in their back yard. It was cool, they were cool, and I figured why not try it?

Fast forward to now, and they're both seniors. Elijah is a senior in college, about to go get his Masters on a football scholarship, and Noah is a senior in high school getting ready to further his education in Wilmington. For their senior photos, they really wanted to go someplace special to them. So my assistant and I road tripped it to Badin Lake, where they have a beautiful lake house and have made some pretty cool memories as a family.

I think my favorite part of having guy seniors is their flexibility and spontaneity. They don't put too much pressure on themselves, and it ends up being a lot of fun. Celia and I literally hopped in the back seat of their car and let them take us on a tour. haha The funniest part about boys is I could find the most gorgeous or really cool, gritty areas that would make any photographer drool... but they'd rather play and pose with gas tanks and disc golf baskets. hahaha Seriously though, a lot of the spots they took us to were pretty awesome!

While the boys had their own ideas of a fun photoshoot, they absolutely got that this was mostly for mom. She had been wanting photos of these kids for years, and she finally got them to agree to this. Her main requests were the bridge, the lake, and this incredible field. This is what untouched land looks like. It reminded me so much of what old Huntersville used to be. Developers have taken over, apartments are everywhere, and I miss the cows. So anytime I see beautiful land like this, I say a little prayer it lasts as a home to the wildlife and a peaceful escape to the residents. Anyways... the boys were happy to give their mom some nice photos in the field she loves so much. And we even included a couple with the pups!!

The last major request was some shots on their boat. These boys are known for their adventurous side. We had hoped it would be warm enough to get some wakeboarding photos, but the water was still freezing. Elijah and Noah may be in summer clothes here, but just know behind the scenes, Celia and I were bundled up in jackets and blankets. lol But I'm happy we were able to get these. We had the most amazing sunset light, and it really does encompass who they are.

It was such a cool honor to be able to photograph Elijah and Noah. I know they just saw me as their parents' old school friend, but documenting these guys and catching up with their mom and dad was a really fun experience.
