Margaret’s NoDa Senior Session
When Margaret’s mom first contacted me for her senior session, I knew it was going to be a fun one. She found me while searching for NoDa senior session ideas, and y’all know how much I love me some NoDa. I think I could shoot in that area every day and never get tired of it. The entire atmosphere there is just so awesome. Everyone is incredibly nice and, because it’s obviously artist-friendly, no one is ever bothered by my presence. It’s easy as a professional photographer to sometimes feel like I’m in the way. It doesn’t bother me quite as much anymore, but the fact that I never have to worry about that in NoDa is the best.
They chose to do the Full Senior Experience for Margaret, which includes professional hair and makeup. Maliha (aka The Beauty Fairy) did such a fabulous job. She took Margaret’s insanely beautiful features and just enhanced them. Add in Margaret’s height and long legs… she looked like a total supermodel. The best part? She’s so not normally the type to get all glammed up. It was fun to give her some time to look like she walked off a freaking magazine cover. Margaret is not only beautiful but also very cool. AND SMART. She’s definitely going to be either a surgeon or scientist or something that’s absolutely going to better our world.
Fun behind-the-scenes fact: it was FREEZING that day. Poor Margaret was SO COLD. She faked it really well, so you can’t tell from the photos, but in between shots, you better believe her favorite gigantic blanket was wrapped around her. Also, you can’t see it, but those Smelly Cat shots? Blanket was totally in her lap. Lol. And because it was her high school blanket, I had to include it in her portrait session just for fun. We also made sure to grab a shot of her with her cute green mini Cooper, at her mom’s request. Pairing it with the streets of NoDa were just perfect. It’s definitely something I think she’ll love looking back on.
While I loved photographing Margaret and creating some gorgeous shots for her, I definitely think my favorite part was honestly at their ordering appointment. Something I didn’t know about her and her family while at her session was that they’re total dog people. I think she (and her dad) spent half their time loving on my sweet Lab, Flash. It was such an honor to document Margaret’s senior year for her, and I hope they enjoy their beautiful album and images for many many years.
